Preparing a standard set of audit workpapers took a junior around three and a half hours. The work involved reading source documents, extracting figures, cross-checking information, and assembling supporting evidence.
The firm had built an AI proof of concept to handle much of this work. But it needed a more structured process before the approach could be used across audit engagements. Reviewers had to approve specific stages, and the workflow needed to remember its progress when work was paused.
