Challenge:

The dealer management system runs across 140 showrooms and service centres. Before each release, the QA team worked through 760 test cases by hand.

That took six people about three days each time.

The team wanted to automate the repeatable checks, while keeping the cases that still needed human judgement manual.

What we did:

→ Added three Automation Testers through a dedicated staff augmentation engagement

→ Automated the 480 test cases that were stable and repeatable

→ Kept 280 manual, where a person still needed to check the result

→ Let the client’s QA Lead decide which cases stayed manual

→ Started with API tests, then added the user-facing screens where needed

→ Connected the automated tests to the development process so they ran on every code merge

→ Worked alongside the existing QA team throughout

Results:

480 of the 760 test cases are now automated and run in about 38 minutes on every code merge.

The 280 manual cases remain with the QA team because they still need a person’s judgement.

Releases moved from roughly monthly to fortnightly, and the regression work stopped being the main constraint on release timing.
